7 Ways to Make Your Team Recruiter-Proof

You carefully and intentionally built a team of rockstars, whom you appreciate and grow with daily. Preserving this tight knit group is something that should be important to you and to the success of your company. You wouldn’t want to lose any of your hardworking teammates anytime soon! Now is the time to take action to ensure your team isn’t tempted by recruiters and scooped up for business elsewhere. Here are 7 ways that will not only protect your team but will leave them feeling even more content at their place of work.

1. Sustain a warm team culture

Company culture can make all the difference in the overall happiness of your team and their ability to work together in a cohesive manner. Slipping on the values that you have enacted to be guiding principles not only ruins your authenticity as a brand and a business, but it will leave your team disappointed with the lack of support. Make sure to connect everyone within your business and adhere to the standards you have set in place to understand how your team works together to achieve your goals. 

2. Prioritize regular team check-ins

Don’t forget you are working with people! People get tired, frustrated, and burned out. Reach out to your team members individually to check in to see how they are feeling. This could be considered an audit of their emotions and how confident they are feeling about the quality of work they are producing. Try to make it a point to take an interest in your team’s personal interests to show that you truly care about their wellbeing. 

3. Celebrate everyone’s wins

No one’s success is greater than another’s! Celebrate every team member’s accomplishments, as each is important to that individual and to the momentum of your business. Everyone is working hard to produce results and they should be congratulated for their efforts to ensure that their actions do not go unnoticed. Like the saying goes, “there is no I in team.”

4. Allow time for mentorship

Think of each team member as a sponge that is ready to be filled with all the knowledge of those who are more experienced and have expertise to offer. Make sure you are setting aside time to mentor your team. This could be working one on one to strengthen someone’s weak points, or simply offering advice about how to approach task completion. Regardless, mentorship is key to the growth of your team’s skillset. 

5. Create new learning opportunities

Look into creating learning opportunities for your team, whether that is in-house or through a third party. Maybe you carve out a day to teach your team how to perform a particular technique or task.  Maybe you could set up a meeting with a professional who specializes in a specific skill set. Doing so will generate more of an empowered and knowledgeable team which helps them with their day to day activities and make work a little easier! Encouraging your team to find free, virtual certification opportunities can improve their skill sets and improve the work they are doing.

6. Measure engagement consistently

How is your team reacting to your business? How do they feel about their roles? Consider creating a survey to take the temperature of your employees. Then you can use their reports to discuss performance reviews and overall company sentiment. You want to make sure that you are crafting a happy and healthy work environment so you can support your team as they support you. 

7. Address employee needs

Every team member has individual needs. These needs could range from their work schedule, personal struggles, or skills required to produce results. Remain understanding of everyone’s situation and consult your toolbox to see how you can come alongside your team to address these needs in a professional setting. It’s up to you and your managers to recognize and satisfy these needs to increase job satisfaction.

To make your team “recruiter-proof” try implementing these strategies on a daily basis so that you can keep your team in good spirits and decrease the risk of losing your rockstars! After all, you want to build a comfortable and safe work environment that makes it easy for your team to say “no” to any outside job offers!
