How is hiring in Colombia different than in the US?

In many ways, including no employment at will, government run health care and required severance.

What positions are best suited for Colombia?

The talent pool in Colombia is deep and diverse. We have found that the most requested searches are technical, tactical and implementation based roles. Things like HubSpot Technologists,  Onboarding Specialists, Implementation Specialists and Developers.

Should I hire a full time employee or a contractor?

The Colombian government is very concerned with non-Colombian companies hiring "contractors", and utilizing them like they would a full-time employee to avoid things like social security, health care and severance. If you plan to control your new team members' hours and want control over how they produce their work, you must hire full-time. You do not have those options when working with a "services provider", AKA a Colombian contractor. 

Additionally, the most sought after candidates will almost certainly be working full-time and to coax them from their current role to a new one, the structure must be equivalent. 

Will I need to become an expert in Colombian employment law or hire a lawyer in Colombia?
