Happy Lamps: Why Everyone Should Have One on Their Desk

We all know the power of the sun. The vitamin-D machine that gives you energy, strengthens bones, and boosts your mood. But how can you reap all of these benefits when you can barely find time to get away from your desk or are stuck in the office all day? Sadly you gaze out the window as the hours pass and the sun’s rays dwindle. Yet, there is a solution! Happy lamps are the new mini suns.

What are happy lamps?

Happy lamps, happy lights, therapy lights - whatever the name - they all do the same thing! These fixtures provide light therapy (phototherapy), by mimicking the natural sunlight without emitting harmful UV rays. Phototherapy is known to alter your brain’s chemistry to improve your overall mood and quality of sleep. And if you struggle with seasonal affective disorder, also known as SAD, light therapy may be a beneficial alternative when you can’t get out in the sunshine during cloudy days or when there is less sun in the winter months.

What are the benefits of happy lamps in a work environment?

A boost to your workday is what you can expect from light therapy. If you want to feel more energized to complete your tasks, one of these lights would make a great addition to your space. The light enters the retina of our eyes, which houses sensors that affect your body’s hormones. When our eyes receive an influx of bright light, the hormone serotonin rises. Serotonin is often referred to as the “happiness hormone” which helps control our mood and energy levels. As a result, you might find it easier to grind out those work calls or to do lists because you have the energy and optimism to do so!

Can happy lamps increase job satisfaction?

If your work environment gets an “upgrade” from happy lamps and your overall mood and attitude are improved, does it translate to increased job satisfaction? Happy lamps just might bridge the gap between your team’s performance and their outlook on their role at your business. Buying these lights for your team to install at home, installing them in the office, or simply bringing happy lamps to their attention, may leave your team feeling taken care of and appreciated. If their employer cares about their overall happiness and physical well-being, this can only create a sense of contentment with their position and the company they work for. No one wants to leave a job that truly dedicates their efforts in providing a sustainable and healthy atmosphere.

What better way to start and end a cloudy workday than with some homemade light therapy! Think about investing one for yourself or for the rest of your team.
